(For this game, it's sandbox- you are free to go wherever, do what ever you want [within reason]. If you found Henka, you'd be allowed to join them as a grunt and work your way through the ranks. So do what you wish, but be wary of checks and consequences.) You may be well read, but your major did not specialize in TMs, and therefore, you don't know how to tell a good TM from a bad one.

Travis will spend $1350 purchasing Low Sweep and Rock Smash. He'll then walk over to see what Pokemon are for sale.

The man selling Pokemon looks at you nervously. "You lookin' for anything in partic'ler?"

"No, nothing in particular. I was just wondering what you had here on-hand today. Maybe a Litwick by chance?"

The man laughs- a raspy, clattery laugh. "Who do you think I am? You ain't gonna find somethin' like that here. I maybe be good but I'm not that good."

Travis' eyebrow furrows, "Alright, well neither of us has the time to play guessing games at what you have, so rather than mocking me when I can't correctly guess your Pokemon, why don't you show me what you DO have?"

"Kid, chill out. You came to me, remember?" He smirks. "I got a Houndour, Poochyena, Pikachu, and Piplup, currently. Getting my next shipment in tomorrow."

"Well, I'm interested, but I don't have the money. Unless you have something that you need done I can do to earn either Houndour or Piplup, I'm afraid I'll have to come back another time."
If the vendor says nothing, Travis will look about at the other stalls(in particular the pokeball stand, and looking at the price for their basic balls, but is also trying to pick out Crackle out of the crowd, to see who he might be.

#You'll need perception for Crackle. He was the guy you bought the TMs from.
"No. I don't give stuff away for free I gotta make a living. If you're gonna ask for freebies, you'd be better off elsewhere." You hear a growling from behind the Pokemon seller, and a rather vicious Mightyena with several scars steps out from the darkness of the alleyway.

"I was clearly not asking for freebies. I'm absolutely willing to earn my keep. I was looking for a job. Clearly you don't have one though, so I guess we're done."

"Someone workin for me ain't gonna pay for my food." You see Crackle talking to some other individual.
The seller doesn't sell Basic Balls like you've ever seen before, rather, they are some strange augment of PokeBalls.

"Well, some o' these are Snagger Balls... Used for snagging the Pokemon off some other Trainer. Them's gonna cost 'bout 1500 pyen each. These others... they're 100 pyen each, and have a nice little feature of making the Pokemon much easier to catch when you throw 'em."
